About the Filmmaker

In 2011, Kyle Porter and mother Anna Porter created the hour-long documentary “Unwasted: The Future of Business on Earth” for a Seattle-based facilities maintenance company, Sage Environmental Services. This 54-minute film has been viewed more than 60,000 times in over 180 countries around the world.

The interest in the Stanwood barn began from the stand point of it being a "deconstruction" project, led by Dave Bennink of Re-Use Consulting.  The buildings that he carefully dismantles across the nation are typically rich with history and deep personal meaning. However, the depth of history and meaning in this particular case was astounding - and absorbing.

This film was completed over the course of 3 years, involving two dozen interviews (amounting to 26 hours of footage), hundreds of hours of research at the Stanwood Camano News, Stanwood Public Library, and the Stilliguamish Genealogical Society), and many more hours of editing (including roughly 90 minutes of material cut from the finished film).

The film will be released to the public via YouTube on November 18, 2016.
